Despite the rain outside, there were many welcoming exhibition boards and photo props throughout campus. A series of publicity materials were launched via the electronic screen, creating a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere. The teachers and staff of the graduate school, the 16 departments, and the Office of Finance handled all the admission procedures at the Student Affairs Center. The registration process was simple and quick for all the incoming graduate students.

In 2018, SUSTech admitted a total of 756 graduate students, with 304 as doctoral students and 452 as master students. Some of those students from joint doctoral program had already arrived to start their research. The data shows that this year's graduate students are about 5:2 male to female, with the share of female graduate students increasing compared with previous years. The percentage of students born after 1995 has reached 60%, and the youngest graduate students were only 20 years old.

Most of our new graduate students came from provinces like Guangdong (72 people), Shandong (59 people), Henan (44 people), Hubei (41 people) and Jiangxi (37 people), and one of them is from Taiwan. Many have come from well-known universities at home and abroad, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Wuhan University and Xiamen University. Foreign graduate students have come to us from famous universities such as Imperial College London, and Birmingham University.

During this Welcome Week, Professor Chen Yuehong from the Humanities Center, Bi Baoyi from the Art Center, Han Wei from the Academy of Sciences, Professor Ma Shizhuang of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Special Research Fellow Dai Wusan of the Institute of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences at SUSTech will all give keynote speeches. They will join teachers from a variety of departments across SUSTech to give special lectures and training to the students. This will help our new students become more comfortable on our campus.
