On December 28th, 2017, the Nanshan District People's Government and SUSTech held a signing ceremony to mark the agreement to jointly build the Xili People's Hospital and cooperate with each other on the establishment of a university affiliated hospital.

Leaders including Deputy Mayor of Shenzhen Wu Yihuan, Party Secretary of Nanshan District Committee Wang Qiang, University Council Chairperson of SUSTech Guo Yurong, Deputy Secretary and Head of Nanshan District Zeng Pai, and President of SUSTech Chen Shiyi attended the event.

At the start of the ceremony, President Chen Shiyi delivered a speech on behalf of SUSTech. He said that the cooperation between the district and the university in building a university affiliated hospital opens a new historical chapter of medical education at SUSTech and brings in an innovative model of upgrading and reforming hospitals, which also fits the development requirements of the university's medical school at the current stage.

They wish to improve the hospital's medical standard quickly through bilateral cooperation, pilot the innovative development of the university's medical school, reform the medical teaching system, and develop the hospital into an important base for cultivation and placement of medical talents from the university. Simultaneously, the district and the university will work together to improve the medical and healthcare conditions of north Nanshan District to meet the medical demands of area residents as well as the university's staff and students.

Wang Qiang pointed out in his speech that the joint construction of the university affiliated hospital between Nanshan District People's Government and SUSTech is a big and happy event for Nanshan District's medical and healthcare development.

Later on, Bao Changhan, Deputy Head of Nanshan District and Wu Chuanyue, Vice President of SUSTech signed a cooperation agreement on behalf of the district and the university respectively, witnessed by leaders of the city, the district and SUSTech.

After the agreement is signed, the District and SUSTech will establish a long-term, stable and close strategic partnership, seeking to improve the hospital's medical service standard and clinical teaching quality through cooperation, establish and perfect the unique teaching and scientific research platform and medical management system of the hospital, guarantee the education and recruitment of Shenzhen's medical talents, realize Shenzhen's development strategic goal of becoming a "Strong City for Healthcare" and accelerate the construction of SUSTech's medical school and development of clinical medicine.
